well I pulled the old jvc head out and thought this should be a cake walk since it had after market head in it.Well there are two impedance white boxes with rca jacks on them.Wires run from old radio head,I guess the speaker wires to these white boxes then rca wires come out from boxes to I guess speaker wires in dash. One box says right the other left.the wire from rca plug wires together to dash speaker wires then.Anyway I am wonder if I should just take those impedance boxes out.The boxes name pryamid and it says 10ohm.Each box also has two adjuster screws for left and right.
Also my frt door speakers are polk 4".Are these speakers good or poor?
Since I have no idea if I need these boxes this isn't a cake walk.
That's some scary doody you got there. Remove it all and burn. Then decontaminate yourself with lime.
After that, remove all non-stock wires, get a new deck, new speakers, and new speaker wire and you should be safe.
What do you want to replace the JVC with and what's your budget? :lurk:
I plan on removing the impediance boxes and looks like I need relpace the speaker wires also as the wiring looks like bubba had his friends helping him when replacing speaker wiring.I don't know why he ran 14g wires at speakers but not all the ay up to head.Behind head seems like its some original wiring tied into his 14g wire god only knows where.
I am not looking forward to fishing all new speaker wires but it has to be done.
I bought an Alpine 7893 btw.

Re: new head install (vert2go89)
Great Googly Moogly what the hell was that guy thinking? We really need to thin the heard some starting with him. :lolg:
Anyway, do like 92TB said and rip everything out of the car. After disinfecting it run all new wiring, sorry, but thanks to that previous odder...err...owner, you have no choice but to avoid and bypass anything he did. But don't worry; it isn't that hard to run new wiring in that C4. The speaker wiring (doors, dash and rear) is refreshingly simple to do.
Also, check out the condition of the stock wiring harness behind the HU. I have a stinking feeling that individual who shouldn't reproduce has butchered it. Hopefully you can repair it and hook up your new HU using an aftermarket harness like you should. If not, let us know and we'll help you out in rewiring the mess.
14awg speaker wire is ok, especially if you plan on adding amps, as long as it is run correctly.
Great choice on your new Alpine HU and Good luck! :seeya
Well I replaced the head unit today.I saw why the guy had impedance boxes in the dang system.H e had used the oem speaker wire system so he was still going through the bose amps.Well uh I really don't think the amps were getting power so what the heck was he thinking?I guess the 10 ohm adjustable impedance boxes was supposed to make the system work.
Well anyway I fished new speaker wires to all speakers and now I actually have a decent sound system.
Only problem is now my cruise isn't working and my antenna still doesn't move.I guess I pulled a wire loose to the cruise. As far as the antenna I couldn't find the dang relays even standing on my head in the rear compartment. My service manual says the pink wire is for antenna.Dang it there were two pink wires in dash. One pink wentto main oem plug that had hot wires in it so I guessed that was it but it still didn't work.Touched other pink and it blew my radio fuse.
Anyway this cake walk isn't over yet I guess.
Relay should be in the rear under the carpet on the driver's side rear cargo wall. The wire should beI think pink with a white stripe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, my wire code link is at work. Next, there are some fuses in a fusebox behind the panel under the dash above the passenger's feet. Check those. It could be a fuse affecting both the antenna and CC, hopefully. We'll get those pesky germs yet.
