Default Another C6 white noise thread…

09 3LT w/ factory Bose, installed a Kenwood DDX9907XR this evening using the newer PAC RP5-GM11 interface, rev 5.1.4.22. Was fairly easy to wire up, though there’s a couple things I have questions about with everything installed

1.) Getting white noise at all volume levels and seemingly for all inputs (haven’t tried USB yet). I have the PAC connector 3 hooked up to the amplified port on the interface. The white noise isn’t loud and doesn’t increase with volume level, it’s just noticeable at lower or 0 volume levels. The volume also gets rather loud very quickly for radio, less so for Bluetooth audio. Powering off the HU makes the noise go away, and it returns immediately once it’s on. One guy said this had something to do with needing to come off the RCA preouts instead of the HU speaker wires - can you do that with the Bose amp? Would you go directly to the amp or somehow wire them to the interface speaker wires? The sound quality is perfect otherwise so I’d like to see what I can do to solve the issue. I didn’t have the same white noise with the factory nav headunit

2.) I didn’t realize before doing this that I’d lose the factory chime, and I’m not a huge fan of the CMX chime. It sounds super cheap, and I’m trying to adjust the module sound the screw started stripping. Has anybody tried out any other chime modules? I’d love to find something close to the factory one if possible

3.) There’s an additional connector labeled amp on the car side that doesn’t seem to plug into anything on the interface. Is there something I’m missing that this would plug into, or does it just get taped off?

4.) I’m installing front and rear cameras on this as well. How are you guys running power for these - straight off the battery or another source? I really don’t want to be damaging the harness to tap power from somewherw

After talking with a crutchfield rep, we’re thinking that the issue is that the voltage being fed to the amp is still too high even with connector 3 being in the amplified slot on the interface. It looks like there’s a potentiometer on the RP5-GM11 interface that can be used to reduced the passed voltage, it’s adjusted with an itty bitty Phillips. Going to try that to see if it resolves the issue. If not, I ordered some RCA cables off Amazon so I can go from the pre outs to the interface since they’re around 5v and the speaker wires are 22v. It’s quicker than waiting for an LOC to come in. Will follow up

Just tried adjusting the potentiometer on the interface. While it made a difference in the music volume, there wasn’t any significant difference with the white noise. It wasn’t able to adjust a whole lot though, so I suspect that it’s more of a fine tuner for lower voltage outputs. I will see if running RCA cables from the HU preouts to interface will make any difference when they get here tomorrow

Going with RCA cables from the preouts directly to the PAC interface worked to solve the issue. I didn’t get the cables I ordered to I kinda had to mock it with the loc harness and some make rca extenders I had, but the white noise disappeared. At the moment I have the Crux LOC kit installed, I’ll pull everything out again when I get the new cables cause the loc kit is a bit quiet and was a pain to get stored back there

Did you fix this issue? I have the same problem with the non-Bose system, but there is still a stock amplifier. Thinking I will need to use an LOC or RCA cables. Can you share what RCA cables you used?

yea was able to get the issue fixed by running rca cables from my preouts into the pac

these are the RCA to speaker cables I ordered

Amazon Amazon

alternatively the LOC kit from Crutchfield will work too, but I didn’t like having the additional module take up space, and didn’t want to have an in between to tune as well - now it’s all tuned by the headunit
