Stuff on a speaker

I was wonder why my speakers sounded so bad then I found this. Anyone else have this on theirs.

Just a guess...some kind of insulation or sound deadening that has gotten wet?

Mud Dauber wasps often have nests just like that. They do not need much of an opening to get in there. We had them in the engine compartment of our motor coach.

Does look a ot like mud dauber nest, pick at it to see if it crumbles like dried mud, if it a mud dauber nest, there is a tube in it that may have a larval stage wasp.
