Box would be carpeted, no neons, no fans, just a simple box that would be hard to steal.
upside, it fits nicely
downside, those CDT MS-80's are at the boxes max mounting depth.
i could switch to a shallow 10 later on, but not the Edesign 8 that I wanted to.
Make sure you provide some way for the amps to vent their heat. In an enclosed box like that they may overheat and clip or worse. A small fan or just some venting out the rear should do it. Just make sure that part isn't airtight. Also, I would make the lid end at the boxes. Make the boxes higher than the rear by the hight of the lid so the final effect is still a flush top. This puts less weight and torque on the lid and lid hinge and also gives you more volume in the sub boxes for the same space used. :grouphug:
Re: Box design.. what do ya think? (92TripleBlack)
these ARC amps dont even get warm after an hour of the sound cranked... I'm not too worried about them overheating
the reason the lid is like it is, is so the carpet looks seamless... but well see how well that actually works out. 3/4" mdf certainly wont work, and particle board would warp at that size... hmn.
If you can figure out a design that you are happy with, you will get better output from the subs if they are firing down into the floor. That should help out those cdt's some. :yesnod:
you think a window into the sub swould be cool? They arent pretty though...
:yesnod: I am still trying to figure out how to be creative and invert my IDMAX so that I can show it off somehow. I want to paint the frame of the driver to match the car. I think that would look bad ****.
If you install a window in the box, you will have to contend with the material.
I would built it out of 5/8" MDF. The reason I would do this, other materials are scary for acoustic response.
and 3/4" is not required for smaller 8" subs... unless you wanna do 10" later.
facing the sub down is cool. even into the carpet.
if you see the home boxes, they fire the subs down, and ENCOURAGE the use of carpeting as a bass expander.
I like the design of the enclosure. I would still consider fans, tho... the ARC amps may not get hot, but I would not bet against it in an enclosed box.
what did you use to design the enclosure? it looks nice!
The thing about downfiring subs is that it loads the front of the subs, effectively changing the box design. Home subs that are downfiring are in boxes designed with this effect in mind. If you don't include the front-loading in your box calculations (which I don't even know how to do), then your box won't perform the way it was designed to.
