Default Starting my system design

I think I'll wait till the end of summer to install turbos and go with a sound system for now.
Here we go. This is for an 02 vert. I want to do as much of the install myself so I can troubleshoot later of make some ntalegint  decisions about future swaps and upgrades.

I don't like the looks of aftermarket single DIN in the dash. I was leaning toward a Kenwood KVT-911 but messed around with the touch screen and even though I am a CNC programmer and have worked around computers since teletypes I am tired of the glitz. I want *****, or buttons at worst, NO MORE MENUS. I like the Alpine TME-M760 fixed screen. I am certain it will fit in the BOSE head unit area of the C5.

I was then thinking of using a Playstation 2 so passenger could watch DVD and play video on long trips. Is there any way to make a DVD/CD changer work?

The Alpine 7998 Head Unit could fit in the area where the air controls are.

Then move the air controls to the ashtray area.

Might need some professional help with the finish and fit. I think laying the car up for a couple of days would still be worth the look.

I really want to use the stock 12 disk changer If possible but I do have a Pioneer 6 disk changer in my Dakota I can use instead. It currently runs on channel 87.5 with a remote. I'd like to hard wire it?

Thought I'd go with Neverminds recommendation and use CDT-52 component speakers in the front.

????? on 5 1/4speakers for the back.

How about a Kicker 700.5 5 channel amp.

How about a 10" subwoofer in the trunk. I have a box built for (2) 1 ohm MTX 6000 subs but everyone is sticking their noses up at that. I can make a new box no problem.

By the way, can I use the stock speaker wires to help with install issues?

Thanks for any input. :seeya

It could sence its a small screen, but it will be tight.

Just use a video switcher, most car audio companies carry one to work with there stuff.

The Alpine 7998 Head Unit could fit in the area where the air controls are.
Again, another tight fit, problem being, its screen might cover part of the fixed monitor. Why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone, use the 7996 DVD player/HU.

Then move the air controls to the ashtray area.
Easily doable.

Not worth the time and effort, just buy a Alpine changer.

Components in the front, skip the back speakers period. IMHO

Probably leave the newer Kicker amp on the shelf, look at the JL 500/5 maybe. I would rather use new speaker wire runs, IMHO, trying to tap in and back out of the speaker leads for the Bose system would be fun  If the MTX subs make you happy, forget everyone else!

Goodluck

no rear speakers :) use the 6.5" CDT's up front. The HD52's are 5.25 speakers.

Maybe 6.5 Eurosports since you were doing a budget for front and rear.

MTX are really poor SQ subs.... I'd look for Image dynamics IDQ or JLW3...

Bad idea. The PS2 doesn't have any skip protection for bumps. It won't play DVD's for crap in a car.

Also, for subs, check out edesignaudio, adire, and resonant engineering.

I don't think anyone is going to let me use those subs. It''s been recommended I just sell them. Maybe I'll put the Dakota Thunderform back together and sell it. Hate to do that since it was a gift from my daughter, but then again she doesn't want me to use them either. She took out the MTX and put in a JLW3 herself in the Dakota.

I found some CDT HD62's they call 7" couldn't find a 6 1/2". Looks like when I compared the ES620 with HD62 on SoundDomain they were almost the same. Don't know if you'd notice the difference in a vert.

I'll check out the 7996, it would definitely solve the DVD issue. Just need to decide if it has the right look.

So, CDT HD62's, a JLW3 sub. No back speakers. Run new wires, that might make it easier to retore the car 50 years from now  . New stack CD changer altogether in the trunk, maybe it should be able to play DVD's if I don't get the 7996. Bag the PS2 idea and just make a plugin available whenever it might be needed.

Forgot about the backup camera. That's going to be cool.

I have actually positioned the air controls into the ashtray area already but haven't cut the plastic yet, still getting up the courage.

I'll scope out some amps tomorrow.

I might be ordering this stuff by mail so I want to make certain I get all the compatible parts.

For some reason, SD lists a lot of the 6.5 components as 7" speakers. I'm not sure why.

It's just a kooky universal size classification. Some speakers marketed as 6.5" are actually larger up to 7" (mounting diameter). Anything actually measuring over 6.5" is classified as 7" even though it's marketed as a 6.5".
SD just gives you a more accurate measurement other than its marketed size.

I helped a guy install the tme760 screen and it's a beautiful fit. You'll have to cut the headrest install bracket to get it to fill the sides of the orig. radio location, and you'll have to fabricate some mounting brackets, but this is a snap to install. The radio is going to have some space around the edges still, so you'll need an install kit to make it look right still...best of luck!
