C-6 2012 GS, I need some help looking for recommendations to replace my OEM Nav unit with newer technology. I'm hard of hearing and not an audiophile so the current BOSE system sounds fine to me. I would like the replacement unit to receive terrestrial radio, XM radio, a built in bluetooth connection to my iphone and Apple CarPlay (without a wire), and parking assist cameras, preferably one front and one rear, but rear only is okay too. The ideal replacement would be pretty much plug and play, and fit in the current Nav radio slot. I'm not interested in oversized displays or quadruple din installations.
My primary goal had been to modify the OEM Nav unit for a backup camera using Nav Tool, I bought the NavTool module in 2018 and I'm just getting around to installing it. I pulled the radio and disassembled it to install the jumper board only to find I could not remove the last support screw the jumper board would have to reside behind. VERY frustrating! Had the right tools to do the job but that screw was in so tight it couldn't be broken loose, so time to update the technology to get that camera.
Or you can go with their top of the line system https://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DNX....html?tp=64498 This one uses the same type of connector for the GPS antenna as the stock antenna, so no need you use the antenna that comes with the Kenwood, the stock GPS antenna will plug right into it. And as far as adding XM like VinceC5 mentioned, you’ll need an additional XM tuner as the stock tuner can’t be reused with the aftermarket system. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220SXV...0V1-Tuner.html You can however reuse the stock XM antennas with the use of some adapters, this thread will tell you what you’d need to get. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-xm-tuner.html You’ll also need an interface to mate the aftermarket head unit with the car, this is the most commonly used one on this forum. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541RP5...Interface.html Let us know if you have any other questions.
A few other things I’ll add is don’t cheap out on your system, buy a quality brand name system i.e. Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine etc., you’ll be better off in the long run. Also Crutchfeild has a service (for an additional fee) where they’ll connect the interfaces wiring to the head units wiring for you which pretty much makes it plug and play, however they use crimp connectors which I never cared for, if you’re able to solder and have shrink tubing, I suggest doing it yourself, I trust this method far more than the crimp connectors. I also suggest while you’re at it to add backup and front cameras, the front camera is real handy when pulling up to curb stops, to help avoiding damage to your front end. We can also give you guidance on how to hook those up.
