Default CAN BUS Protocol selection for Android Head unit?? Need help

Hello all! I'm in a bit of pickle mainly because I don't completely know what I'm talking about lol.

So, I bought an Android head unit (Mekede). I already had a canbus translator (PAC RP5-GM11). However, the C6 (2008) is not listed as an option in their canbus protocol list. Does anybody know what protocol the C6 uses or any other GM vehicles that use the same protocol? (BTW, I don't even know if I'm using those words correctly and I apologize for being dumb).

Thanks for any help you all can offer!

You don't need to worry about Canbus protocols. The RP5-GM11 knows how to talk to the Canbus in the car. All you need to do is select which head unit the RP5-GM11 will be talking to. In your case, with an aftermarket head unit, it is pretty safe to assume that you turn the selector switch to position #7 - Pioneer/Sony/Other based on the user manual https://content.abt.com/documents/58...ion_manual.pdf

That makes sense. I was able to do my SWC mapping without issue, so that's great.

Follow up question, since this head unit has the ability to tap into all the features within a CANBUS, which wires would I tap to then connect to their CANBUS terminal or how would I go about getting into the CANBUS from behind the console? And again, if I did that, what protocol would I choose?

Thanks!

I think you're out of luck. Although you have a modern head unit, capable of talking to a CANBUS to gather information, to my knowledge, the CANBUS in your car is not capable of talking to the head unit. You would need another interface module, like a Maestro to properly pull the information from the CANBUS and they do not make a Maestro module for a C6. I don't think you can simply tap into a few wires in the CANBUS connector, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it, since if something screws up, you could do more damage to your car.

If someone else knows different though, I am willing to be educated. The only person I know who has done anything remotely similar is @KnightDriveTV who has created a complete radio and HVAC controls replacement, the MAX-DIN. He may know of a way.

You’re correct, because iDatalink Maestro doesn’t make an interface for the C6, you can’t access any additional features your head unit may have (i.e. engine perimeters etc.) so there’s no way to do this that I’ve ever heard of. On my Ford F-250 with the iDatalink interface, and Pioneer head unit, there are two additional connections that connect to two wires for the OBD port that allows for the added features to be viewed on the Pioneer, and they work fine. Why iDatalink doesn’t make an interface for the Corvette, I don’t know. Myself and others have written them asking them if they have one in the works for the C6, and have basically been told they do not, so I think we’re SOL when it comes to that for our cars. Even at that, I don’t think Mekede head units are even supported by iDatalink.

It's worth pointing out that the radio isn't on the CAN bus at all. It's on the Class 2 bus.

The C6 has two networks, one CAN (a.k.a. GMLAN) and one Class 2 (a.k.a. J1850 VPW). Although the two networks are bridged inside the BCM, the interfaces are electrically incompatible.

In short, if you've got a gizmo with a CAN physical interface, there's nothing to wire it into inside the center console. Your best bet would be to run a cable to the DLC (OBD2 port). That's assuming it had software support for the C6, which it sounds like it doesn't.
