Re: Help with sub box in 86 coupe??? (oblivia)
Why can't you get two 12's? Is your budget the reason? Space wise you can fit two 12's or two 10's if you like. I currently have two 10's in my C4 with plenty of room to spare. As for what direction to place the woofer(s), whatever you get place them at the rear of the hatch area and fire them up into the hatch glass. That will give you the best bass response.
As for suggestions for one 12 or two 10's? What is your budget?
:iagree:
Remember, one quality 10" will destroy a pair of average 12" subs. Get quality over quantity. I'd start with one 10w7 and if you need more, get a second. Usually, one is enough for most people. Demo one first. If you want really deep stuff, go up to a 12".
I didn't think that i would have enough room for the two 12"s because I didn't want to lose the use of the two locking cubby's. Should I take out the pull over curtain? (figuring less rattles)...
Also didn't know if the box would then cover the rear speakers in the outward V shaped sides of the hatch? How far away should the subs be from the glass pointing upward?
Should be a cubic foot approximately for each 12". Every speaker is different so you should look into the maker's specs. I would try to keep it under the cover for security reasons. I can't tell you the fit as I don't have the same body. Also, if you have a removable roof, don't forget to leave room.

:iagree: You can fit up to a 2.5 ft^ enclosure in the back and still be able to use the storage compartments, still place your Targa top in the stock mounts in back and still be able to use your cargo cover. It won't block the rear speakers either.
