So being tired of the Bose system I installed and entirely new system. I put in 6.5 components in the doors. 5.25 in the rear, a planet audio 5 channel amp amp and a 10 inch sub in the rear compartment. The head unit i have did not have preamp outs so I had to use line level converters.
Only 1 speaker line is near the positive power supply. Being I ran it down the passenger side. Even if I unplug that speaker line the issue is there. I ran #4 wire back and the amp is grounded to a bolt on the convertible top mount.
The system has a constant whine while on and it gets really loud when I start the car. Definitely matches the RPM.
How can I get this noise out of the system. Suggestions on ways I can figure out what is causing it?
Head unit is just some off brand. I needed something for a trip. It's a single din with a 9 inch touchscreen. That's definitely going. I'm looking to get something else with pre outs to get rid of the converters. I originally had it hooked up to the Bose system with a roem-vet1 adapter. It wasn't too bad. No whining or alterator noise.
I'm not a boss audio fan but the 9 inch BCPA9 was an idea. Also the dual DCPA81W looked ok.
I didn't want to change it over to a double din because I could get a larger screen.
Any head unit suggestions?
The line converters are kickers.

My guess right off hand I’d say the issue is with your no name system. I’m not aa fan of the floating head units personally, they just don’t look right in a Vette to me, but if you’re still set on getting one, I’d stay away from the Boss and Dual as they’re pretty cheap systems. I’d personally suggest you look at the quality Pioneer systems, as they carry a few floating head single DIN systems. https://usa.pioneer/collections/receivers
Well I gave the Boss system a try. Worked out great. It does look a little different but I like the fact that it's able to kind of move around for when I'm driving. Plus the screens a little bigger. I got rid of the speaker line connections and the line converters and was able to go to straight RCA wires. System is nice and quiet sounds crystal clear. I dropped a 12-in sub into the back box about 3 in down so that I can put the cover back over it. Super happy with it
Your amp is the largest power hog in your system. It needs the most efficient ground back to the battery such as a short run of 4 gauge wire directly to the frame.
