touchscreen head unit upgrade
Hey just joined this forum, not had my C5 for that long (about a year now). Looking to upgrade to a touchscreen radio/infotainment style head unit. I have always installed in previous vehicles myself. I know Crutchfield is generally high priced, but quoted everything needed and it was close to $1k. Mine has the factory Bose sound system, tape deck head unit, and CD changer in the trunk. Would like to utilize the Bose speakers as they still sound good. Anyone know of a cheaper option to get this done? I don't necessarily have to have the "best" head unit, but don't want the cheapest either. I was quoting a pretty nice Kenwood head unit through Crutchfield. Is there something different as far as adapters and such in order to use the Bose speakers? Seems like Crutchfield was trying to sell me more than just a head unit, said it was all necessary for it to work properly. This was awhile ago that I had this quoted, so can't really remember all what was involved. I decided that was not as important as other things I was doing to the car at the time, getting close to wanting to go ahead and do this now though

Crutchfield does not sell you stuff you don't need. It does suggest common tools you may need.
can you post a list or snapshot of what things they tried to sell you that you think you don't need?

I went back and found the Crutchfield email. Looking at this list now and factoring how much I’ve already spent on this car getting it how I want it, this really doesn’t seem that bad. Guess for what I’m wanting I’m in it for close to $1k

it's only going to get more expensive everyday. There's nothing on that list that you don't need.

You got that right 100% it’s an expensive “hobby” more to me though, it was my Dad’s car. It was already nice, I’ve taken it to the next level with performance upgrades, it for sure needs this upgrade. I’m not gonna say I’m daily driving it, but I’m driving this car pretty regularly

I just went through this…head unit upgrade, Kenwood DMX958XR, front and rear cameras in my C6. I could of saved $100 on the head unit from another vendor but went with the recommendations of forum members and purchased from Crutchfield. Best decision I made. I think I spent a couple hours total with their tech department…..an invaluable service….they really know their stuff. I have the Bose system and the sound in fantastic. Like VinceC5 said, Crutchfield is not going to sell you something you don’t need.
