My Bose system may have bit the dust last night. It won't even turn on. No matter whether it is a simple fix or not I think I just want to take this opportunity to replace the whole system and speakers.
What is the best unit to use size wise. I know that there are size limitations with a 94, and probably most Corvettes. I'm not looking for a high end model or anything, just something that will sound decent. I would say my budget is about $200 for the head unit and another $250-300 for speakers, front and rear.
I'm searching for, and reading as many threads about replacing the stereo and speakers in C4s as I can find. I am a rookie when it comes to installing car stereos but I don't want to pay someone to install this system. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I wish I'd seen this sooner you could have seen what I put in my 94 at the cruise today.
If you shop right and can squeeze another couple of hundred out of your wallet you could have a small amp and a sub too.
I think I have about $850 in mine and that includes XM radio.
I'll be happy to give you specifics and pics if you want
I Jeffe, do not have jur superiur intellect, bu I tink ju wood like:
A single din unit for the front.
5 1/4" speakers front
6x9 rear. The subs work ok but they need more power, which is out of your budget.
I like Boston Acoustic coax and triax. You'll get some bass and they sound really clean. http://www.tms-electronics.com has them for about $150/pair.
The front is a double din size hole. There are kits that plug it or add a pocket. Metra makes both. They also need a little "finese" to get them to work usually.

I am with 84FromHell. Too bad I didn't know either, you could have seen and heard my setup in the 85. I have an Alpine 7894 hooked up to an Alpine amp hiding under the seat. Sound Systems in San Jose seemed to have very good prices on HU's, or were willing to come reasonably close to web based prices. Plus they will warranty the HU even if they don't install it.

Will the speakers you mentioned above fit in stock enclosers?
I may put an aftermarket system in and I want it to look stock (other than the HU)

Yes. But your dash is different, at least in the 87. The ZR-1 is a double, but it is narrow. It will be tight to get a deck in there without cutting. :lurk:
