Default Custom Backgrounds

Hello all,

I just installed a new Kenwood DMX809S radio in my 2013 GS. Install went great, no issues, everything on the radio works fine. I wanted to upload some custom backgrounds and as of yet have not been successful. I checked out the threads on this forum and some YouTube videos and so far this have not helped me get a good result. Since this is one of their newer units even the Kenwood site really is of no help. I have a USB that I can successfully read. The reason I say this is I can actually see the file names I created and put on the USB on the radio screen. But every time I select the file the radio tells me it is an unrecognized format.
I have tried using photos taken with my IPhone, I have downloaded some backgrounds from this forum as well. I originally tried to use JPG format but noticed that all the provided backgrounds that come on the radio are PNG. So I converted the JPG files to PNG and got the same result.
I know these radios can be very particular with the file format and that is probably my problem but I have tried a variety of file sizes and types but nothing has worked so far. I would appreciate any input that might help me solve this issue. Thanks.

From the user manual:

You can change the following items. • Background image of the Home screen • Display background by using your desired still image file (JPEG/24 bit BMP/PNG)

Yes that is what the manual says. And the instructions work great for the images that come pre-loaded on the radio. Swapping back and forth between them is easy pesy. But when I want to put a file on a USB drive and upload it to the radio so I can select it, the radio will not recognize my image file even though I can see the file name from the USB.
The method I have attempted to use is selecting USB from the radio menu. plugging in my USB drive with the image files on it, navigating through the screens on the radio until I see my image files, and selecting the image file. The radio displays 'unrecognized file format'. Since you should be able to use either JPG or PNG, I have tried both with the same result. I have used different sized files (different aspect ratios) to see if that made a difference and it does not. I have tried to use images obtained from a thread on this forum, still unrecognized.

Very weird. Are you running the latest released firmware?

I finally got it to work but still have a small issue. I went back and looked at my USB drive and noted that I had some pictures that were the correct format (800 x 480) and some that were much higher resolution on the same drive. I went back and made sure all of the files were 800 x 480 and it worked, kind of. When it loaded the picture it would not allow me to select which one I wanted and I had to use the background the radio displayed. I was under the impression I could select which file I wanted to use and I also thought I could replace the backgrounds that came on the radio with multiple files of my choosing. This apparently is not the case. I am going to try deleting all the background images except the one I really want and see if I can replace the one currently uploaded.
No doubt about it, the radio requires a very specific kind of file and will not allow uploading multiple images for selection.
