My 96 has the OE Bose system. Was thinking about replacing the head unit with a blue tooth receiver and maintain the OE speaker/amps. Has anyone looked in to or done this?
My 96 does not have the Bose system and when I researched putting in a new radio, it looked like a royal PITA, so I am just making due with the stock unit and a FM transmitter that allows me to stream music through the car radio.
Do a search on this site as well as the Internet. There are many write-ups and videos on doing exactly what you are asking.
I did it in my 93. Not two bad. Crutchfield has a custom connection that lets you use the factory amps. That’s probably not an issue since the amps are at each speaker.
Just a tip:
Make sure to find out where the volume of your new head unit clips at 100hz.
THEN, adjust the outputting gains on your adapter to that clipping point. (If it's possible with your adapter, mine did)
THEN connect to your speakers/amps.
An oscilloscope and a test 100hz sine wave works best for those procedures. (of course)
