Do speakers need to be connected to the Jensen head unit in order for it to power up? I don't understand why it won't turn on? All I did was disconnect the battery, pull the head unit out, and attach the RCA cables for my new amp. I reattached the battery cable to make sure the head unit still had power before buttoning up the dash, but it wont turn on. I have a 6v/12v tester and its telling me the yellow are red wires to the unit are getting power. Boy, do I feel stupid asking this...but it's better than assuming that I shorted the unit somehow.
Re: Here's a really stupid newbie question (JoeyG)
Make sure the ground wire is still attached. Although you may have power with no return to ground no worky.
**Side note, some may say the ground wire provided by the antanea is suitable for testing/working purposes, bull poopie.**
When I originally pull out the Jensen head, I had to disconnect the harness adapter to get some slack. There were three sets of molex type connectors that attach to the harness adapter, correct? The connectors can only fit one way on the adapter...I don't know why I'm not getting power!! I even tapped directly into the constant power wire (orange), accesorry wire (white), and ground wire (black) and still no power to the head, but there's power in the wires. Should I have the Jensen bench tested at a stereo shop to see if I unknowingly shorted it? The reason I asked about the speaker wire in the original post is because the installer who originally hooked up the Jensen attached one set of RCA cables to the unit even though it was never connected to an amp. I didn't know until I pulled the head that I really didn't even need to pull the head!!!! ARGH!!
