need more volume
I have Kenwood head unit (1989) with Corvette logo on it and it puts out 40W internal amp output. I know nothing about stereos, and I like the head unit. My question is what good amp would work with only speaker ouput connections to drive 4 120W speakers? How many amps needed to hear over Flowmaster 40s at highway speeds? Any suggestions?

Get a 40x4 amplifier. The head unit you have makes MAYBE 17 watts by 4.

65x4, then set the crossover to 80hz or so, and you're set.
OR yuo coudl do sound deadening with a combination of dampening sheets and closed cell foam.. that would do it too. If you did both, that would be great.
