Default Remote Starter

Anyone have any experience with remote starters? Which ones are good/bad, overpriced, etc... I'm looking for one and have no idea where to start.

I've used the Alpine and Ungo series, both worked well, but of course those were full alarm installs.

my last one was a viper alarm and starter in one package, it ran me about $400 bucks and that was with full install and labor.

It gave me peace of mind and i loved the starter (good distance with the remote).
GO with the VIPER. or whatever else.

:D

I'd suggest the Prestige City Tough 996R. Comes with a long range antenna (i've personally started my car from 2 blocks away!), LCD pager remote (will page you if alarm goes off), and will also give you confirmation if the alarm is armed or disarmed(on remote) in case you're not within ear shot of you car.

I personally have this alarm on my Z-71, and have installed these a WIDE variety of cars.

Or if you want a basic remote start the Pretige APS-785 is a good model. It doesn't have the paging system or LCD remote, but it works great and has the same distance the 996r has.

Do you have an estimate of how much each of these systems would be including install?

As far as shop cost, I'm not sure how much they would charge, but labor is usually the most expensive thing when buying the alarm. Locally at the shop I used to work at, a basic remote start alarm with Super heterodyne antenna runs $350 installed, and the system I have runs $550+ installed (no window roll up or window roll down). If you wanted window roll up and window roll down, that's usuallly and extra $100-$200.
