I have an aftermarket alarm system installed in my car. Would like to know if how can I disable the stock alarm system --- at least from open and locking my doors.
I think I see what you're worried about. Perhaps someone else may have your original fob, and THEY could open your doors?
The fob signal is received by the RF receiver, which communicates to the body control computer. That computer then sends signals to the door modules to lock/unlock the doors. The receiver is also required for the tire pressure sensors, so you can't just pull it out.
The only thing I can think of doing is to re-train a different fob to all 3 memory locations via the DIC training menu. But you need a factory fob to do that with. Buy a used one, and train it for all 3 locations. Then the missing fob can never be used on your car.
PASSLOCK is the passive system activated by the resistor chip on your key. If the wrong chip is used, the computer will not unlock the steering wheel, restore fuel to the engine, or engage the starter relay.
If someone has your old key too, then you're in trouble. They can open the doors, and drive away. Of course, if your aftermarket system has starter kill then you may be OK.
That is a good idea to borrow a FOB and retrain the system. Can any fob be used or only the corvette fob for my year? perhaps I can use the current FOB to see if the system recognizes it?
The 97-99 fob's were different than the 2000+ fobs. New ones are $100, I've seen used ones go for $20. Post an ad on this board and you'll get some hits.
They aren't interchangeable, so just get the right one for your year.
There is a 0% chance the aftermarket fob will not be recognized by the factory receiver.
Went with you original suggestion and reprogram. I had to get two FOBs because the computer too smart and will not allow the same FOB to be reprogrammed twice.
