Has anyone done any custom work on a 77 or earlier c3 corvette with speaker boxes or sub boxes. I would like to keep room for T-tops in the back so was thinking about putting into one of the compartments but not sure how big i can make the compartment. I currently have 2 6x9's, one on each wheel hump facing straight towards side of car. I'm looking for any custom speakers/sub work and pictures would be great. Thx for the info!

Re: c3 STereo (Draginslayer)
I was reading my morning articles and thinking to my self, "hmmm self you need to post an update on the sub box", and I came across your post. So... I have posted my update and here it is.
It looks good A C but how did you go about doing it?
Is it something someone who has never used fiberglass before would be able to do or is it pretty simple. I'm pretty handy with new things and anything is worth a try. I have a current 10" Alpine Type-R I am looking to put into the car but still want all my cargo room. Also, where do you plan to put the amp for your sub?

Re: c3 STereo (Draginslayer)
Well the fiberglass is not that hard. Really you just put down the glass and paint it with resin. I was not trying to make it look amazing since it will be hidden under the compartment lids. I only played with fiberglass once before and I was making a remote control boat hull. They only trick is mixing the resin. Just make sure to follow the instructions.
I just made sure I prepared the jack well with tinfoil and masking tape. Also make sure you put lots of vaseline top of the tape and tinfoil before you start using the glass and resin. It makes getting the mold out much easer.
And that leads me to your next question. I didn't want to loose any cargo space either, so I figgured I could cram a 10" sub in the compartment where the jack is. Bassically doing it with fiberglass will maximize the ammount of cubic footage I get.
As for the amp, in my 78 I have the back wall that I can mount it on. So I still have the entire cargo area free. All you will see is my amp and 6x9 alpines in the back. The rest was mounted in stock locations, or hidden.
If you want to know anything else, just let me know.
Thx for all the help, the info is really making me look forward to trying the project one of these days(probably more like weeks :D ) Do you know if having the Sub towards the passenger side with affect the sound for the driver and what direction to you plan to face the sub, i've heard facing it down or towards the back of the car gives the best sound.
I am even considering re-doing my rear 6x9 Speaker boxes so they face more forward towards the seats, not towards the side of the car. Has anyone had any experience with this or has had any ideals on fabricating something?

Re: c3 STereo (Draginslayer)
Low frequencies are not that dependent on position and direction. Even if there is a diffrence, it will probally not be noticable. The sub will realistically only be about 4 inches off of center :-)
I am going to have the sub face up. That will probally be the easiest way to mount it.
