91 coupe with amfm cassette non-bose cdmreciever box is going bad and have decided to replace whole stereo. can i just unplug head unit and install a system like in the old days? or do i have to do something with the reciever box or can i just leave it there? i mean such as the antenae power or speaker wires will doing this throw any codes? i dont know if factory stereo is tied into ecm or the climate control system? i dont know which way to go with this? any help would be appreciated
you will want to get a harness adaptor. that will bypass the receiver module.
you will need an antenna adaptor.
I would be willing to bet money that the base system does not have the separate receiver module... I will have to check my helms manual to be sure.
the ECU should not effect you in regards to the base system. I don't think it has the speed volume compensation logic... meaning, it ain't attached to the ECU.
