I am unhappy with this stock Bose system and am getting ready to install an amp. My question is will I notice a big improvement in sound quality if I trash the stock HU and replace it with an aftermaket one while adding an amp at the same time spending $1k? I dont need an award winning system I just want a nice clear sound at reasonable sound levels
Personally I prefer getting quality components and seeing how that sounds. Bass can be added later on.
I'd rather do that than skimp bigtime on components, headunit, and amp. I'll end up with bass but nothing will sound as good. Plus to add a sub, you need to factor in cost of a box and another amp + the sub itself. That and the install is complicated even more.
But if you want a sub:
MB Quart PSD 216 (210 shipped)
JBL 180.2 amp (150 shipped)
Pioneer 4500 headunit (165 shipped)
JBL 300.1 (145 shipped)
Alpine Type R 12" sub (115 shipped)
Thats under $800 shipped. Its a pretty good system. I would personally like a mp3 headunit, but other than that, everything else is quality.
