My courtesy lamp delay timer finally came in, and my interior lights are working again. My radio still isn't. It was in the car when I purchased it so I'm not sure how It was wired. The car was originally Bose so I guess It's wired to the Bose harness. I want to by-pass the Bose stuff completely, and wire it out of the fuse box. I have an Org/Blk wire out of the CTSY/CLK fuse, and 2 yellow wires out of the HOT IN OFF/ACC. Can I just tap into these?
Thanks for your help now, and on the other problem.
i'm in the same boat. i inherited a poor install both electronically and physiscally. it looks like hell and its wired through the ignition. the original harness is cut up so i'm trying to wire through the fuse box for the antenna and radio. it has an amp so i'm really at a loss for direction. didn't stop me from pulling everything apart :) right now i'm trying to get to the wiring at the fuse box and run new wires. wish i could help but i'm blind when it comes to this. good luck to the both of us :withstupid: (your holding the sign and i'm the stupid one) :D
ok, i have everything in the dash out and the kick panel on the passenger side down with part of the passenger door fuse panel disassembled. i'm desperately trying to find a place to hook up my headunit (acc) . please someone read this and reply so i can drive my baby. its going to be 78 degrees today...
I would suggest not wiring to the fuse box. Just for the fact that it is not a nice install. Installing a head unit is extremly easy. All you will need is a test light and connectors, i.e. butt connectors, wire nuts, ect. Find a ground and connect the test light to it. Take the test light and find a wire that turns the test light on with no keys in the ingnition. This will be your constant 12v connection. Then, put the keys in the ignition and turn it to the "On" position. Find a wire that lights the test light only when the key is in the "On" position and is off with the keys turned off. This is your remote wire. Finally find the stock ground wire or find a new groud and the install is finished, asumming the speakers are already working from the previous install. If you need any more help, IM me. Good luck
I called around this morning(Crutchfield,Best Buy, etc.) the ones that knew something about Corvettes said they thought it would be OK to tap into the wires behind the fuse box, as long as the head had another fuse in it's line. I tapped into the ORG/BLK out of the CTSY/CLK for hot, and one of the YELLOW out of the RADIO, for hot in acc. So now I got my stereo back. I'm pretty sure it was the amp relay(BOSE). I wanted ya'lls expertise on the subject; a lot of places couldn't give me advice because it was a Corvette.
Again thanks, and good luck with yours.
thanks to all the info in this forum i have correctly wired my stereo system. i ended up taking power from the secondary fuse box (rdo) circuit with an in line 10 amp fuse. i'm sure this seems really simple to most but it was a bit intimidating at first. thanks forum :grouphug:
I looked in Tech Tips; only saw two articles on repairing Bose amps. I don't have any. Mine is all Pioneer, installed before I bought the car. It was hooked up useing the Bose wireing. I could keep replaceing amp relays, after tearing my dash apart, or rewire it once and for all. I have diagrams from GM, I just wanted to make sure nothing bad would happen. After all, if one shorted wire in a door lamp could take out two circuits, I tend to be cautious.
Glad to hear your stereo is working Merplastic87, mine is too.
