All the shops in town said that because I have the bose system I must rewire for the new speakers, I always thought wires were wires and if two leads go from the dash to each speaker location I would have thought they could have been used I realize new connectors would have to be added, all the shops say no but can't explaine why in fact one shop said about 4 wires go to each speaker location but they can't be used....
I heard the 9813 play over two 6" and two 6x9" under it's own power and for now that's plenty of volume for me......the more I learn about stereos the more confused I get......
I know I need the wire plug for the head unit so it just plugs into the stock wiring and a face plate kit, but what is the real deal on this install, I have installed car stereos in the past and it was never a big thing like this seems to be,
please explain like I'm stupid because on this I am....
Thanks,
Just a few things I want to point out, just in case you've overlooked. :)
1) Stock speakers are different ohms than the typical 4-ohm after market speakers so they can't be used with most of the aftermarket headunits.
2) If you are going to replace the speakers at the same time, it make more sense to run new speakers and not cut into the old speaker harness/connector. That way, if you every need to go back to stock and sell the car, your old stock stuffs would drop right in. And when you have everything opened up, it would only take another 15-20 minutes to run new speaker wires. :)
3) You will need a GM barbed antenna adapter in addition to the GM wiring harness and faceplate.
4) For the door speakers, you can drop in a set of 6.5" component set, but a pair of MDF template will be needed. And for the rear, the 6.5" will just drop right in (on the C5 Coupe).
'dremel' some material away.

theres a pic of my utopuiia 6.5 in the door. you can see how i had to cuut the square opening. same goes for the opening on the door panel.
9815 has blue buttons, and you can burn settings to a cd and load them onto the head unit from alpine's site... thats pretty much it... oh yeah, slightlly nicer display too.

I don't mind cutting behind what's scene, mine has the square bose door grills will they cover what you have, or do you have a pic of the door back together?
Did you cover or baffle the back sides of your door speakers?
I think the 9815 does look better and I love all that high tech cd burning computer stuff.....
as far as rear speakers, the shops said 6x9's will fit what's the real deal there.
on another reply to me I know I have to get rid of all the bose speakers I simple didn't understand why everyone was so adamant that new wires to the speakers should be run.....I don't plan to ever sell this car so if I did the stereo is not an issue....

they are moyunted to a board which is then mounted to the door.
back before i had front speakers good enough that i didnt need rears, heres what 6x9s look like in the back:
