Default Adding an FM Modulated CD changer. Which one??

Title says it all. Here are the 3 I'm looking at getting. My BLOSE CD player is messing up too much. I like the MP3 feature of this unit http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...o&i=158CDX565M

I've had nothing but great luck with Pioneer, so I'm also looking at these (6 and 12 disk) units
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N

OR
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N

I'm at a loss as to which one to get. Anyone have a sony cd changer in their car? BTW, this is going in my 93, so its needs to beable to handle all the bumps in the road.

TIA

That would be cool to have, but I definatly want to have the CD capability. My cd player just sucks right now, plays like, a few minutes, or will play forever, as long as I dont floor it, and I like to floor it. Do you not have the units I was looking for on your site?? (btw, i checked your site out the other day, and didnt see anything)

well, I went with the sony. Dont get much of a response here in audio land do ya? Thanks Tuan for pointing that one unit out, sorry it didnt meet my needs. Once I get the new CD changer installed, I'll update this thread as to how good it is, or how bad it is, just for future searches on this subject...

I have a Clarion changer in my 95. It came with the car. It's mounted semi-vertically right behind the passenger seat down low. This changer is pretty small and holds 6 cds. Seems to work fine. The controller is stuck to the dash with velcro down below the head unit. Looks OK.

Well, I got the sony installed tonight. Would have been in last night but I couldnt find the antennae connection  Turns out, its not on the back of the stereo, its behind the passenger seat under the tray :banghead:

So far, it kicks azz, only problem is, when I have the car so just the radio is on, it has no juice. I powered it off the extra plug under the center console. If I can find a way to hook it up, so it stays on when the car shuts off, but radio stays on, and goes off when I open the door, I'll be 100% satisfied. I love having MP3's ... make that, 10 disks of MP3's right there at my finger tips :D

If it's the same as a 91, there is an auxiliary fuse block #2 under the passenger side instrument panel. The radio fuse in that box gets power from the delayed accessory bus relay.

Are you satisfied with the Sony CD changer's performance? That is exactly the unit I was looking at to install in my Caddy. If it works out, maybe in the Vette also.

Yes, I am happy with it. I'm still tweaking the D-Bass settings along with the level settings. I think I found a happy medium with level on 4, d-bass on 1. The speed it gets to mp3's on the random function, is much faster than my DVD player at home. there is only a few second break inbetween MP3's when it searches the whole disc. I definatly recommend this unit.

Thanks, you helped me out there. From the info I could gather it sounded like a nice unit but hearing from someone who has one is great. That random feature for MP3s is what I would want to work good because that is how I would use it mostly. You could load a set of MP3 discs in it and be all set for a couple of weeks trip and never have to listen to the same song twice unless you wanted to. :)

no problem. If/when you get it, just make sure you hook it up right the first time, I hate the fact that I will now need to re-wire the power, so it stays on with the radio when I shut the car off, or put it in AUX position :banghead:

Hey vetteweiser...could you post how the wiring of the CD changer was (in detail) to make the changer cut on and off with the stereo. I imagine '93 is the same as '94. This is my one question. I'm hoping to hook up my CD changer after the Cruise In at Bowling Green. I'd appreciate it...thanks.

Ok, finally got it done today, here's what I did. on my cd changer, I had a yellow, red, and black wire. Black is ground of course, and its hooked upto the accessory plug in the center console. The red wire from the CD player, I spliced into the yellow wire that is comming out of (or going into, whichever) the receiver (located behind passenger seat). The yellow wire from the cd changer, got spliced into the orange wire of the receiver. Works like a charm

btw, here's what I found....

CD changer: Yellow = Hot (always powered) Red = Switched. In the 94 degree heat today, that had me pretty pizzed off, as I hooked it up wrong at first :banghead:

For the receiver, the Orange is hot, and the yellow is switched (ignition) but the yellow does stay on until I open the door.

Hope this helps, if not, shoot me an IM or email
