My new setup with my RF 4 chnl amp sounds great but sometimes when the engine RPMs jump or spike suddenly, the amp or HU cuts out for a half a second or two. Same HU I had before and never did that so it has to be the amp. Any ideas? Something to do with capacitance?
Re: new amp, why cutting out sometimes? (Surfer69)
Is it in a C3? If so, you might have a problem with the voltage regulator on the charging system. The spike in rmp increases the output of the alternator. There is an internal safety on the amp so it doesn't get over loaded. It is possible that it is going into "safe mode" until the voltage drops back into an acceptable range.
You can test this theory with a multi-meter on the battery. See what kind of volts and amps you get when you rev the engine.

That sounds logical. It is a C3 69 vert with external voltage reg. I didn't know about possible protection circuit on amp but sounds like that may be it. And we're talking about big or quick spikes in RPM and not gradual increases.

Hard to say. I think the best approach would be to try and reproduce the problem with the amp while you have a multi meter hooked up to the battery. Most amps have built in circuit protection and will only operate between a range of roughly 11.5 to 14.5 volts.
Another option would be to check all of you connections to the amp since you recently installed it. Could be a bad/loose ground or remote turn on lead wire.

Update: I dont have external regulator, it is internal to alternator. I called RF and they said the amp does have cut-off between 11.5 and 15 volts. So, question is how can I control voltage so this cutting out stops?
