Simple question. If a receiver has an internal amp and pre-amp outputs can I install a remote amplifier. I've changed my mind from Alpine 9815 and am ready to purchase a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X817 and a HiFonics ZX 6400 Amplifier to go with Focal CA130 and165 speakers. Is this a reasonable setup? Really need help as I can't get any tech help from the online stores that I will purchase from. THANKS!!!!

Yes, you can run external amp(s) off of it, but ideally, there should be a way to disable the internal amp(s). Not very many HUs have this ability, so I just stay away from HUs with internal amps.
The CDA-9815 is a very  head unit. You can customize that thing in more ways from here to Sunday. All you need to do is set the PWR-IC setting off to disable the internal amplifiers.

Yes. In fact you can use both the internal and an external amplifier at the same time. Run a set of components from and amp and a set of rear speakers from the deck power. The ability to "turn off" the internal amplifier isn't necessary, but it is a nice feature of most Alpine decks I can think of.
Your setup sounds good, but what will you do for bass? You are not going to get much sound below 80 Hz even out of the best components.
