I built an amp box sub rack (pics)
I went out of town a couple of weeks ago and realized that my old install was taking up too much cargo room in my trunk. So I decided to build a sub box for 2 Kicker L5s that would also serve as an amp rack. The whole set up only takes up the area behind the seats between the wheel wells.
The box is built from 3/4" MDF and the subs have about .9 ft^3 of internal volume.
I built a cover for the amps and a "chimney" to run the wires up to the top amp and have them hidden from view.
I attached the covers with 2 hinges so I could get at the amps to adjust the gains and replace the fuses if needed.
Kicker recommended filling the enclosure 50% with polyfill. I notice a difference over my old box when using the polyfill. The bass seems a little lower and smoother (could be just my imagination though)
Here is a shot from inside the car.
Now I have my floor space back and can even use the center hatch compartment.
I mounted the crossovers for my JL Audio XR 650s under the drivers seat
My girlfriend snapped this one while I was working on getting the carpet back in place :lol:

I have a stupid question, why do you have th subs firing to the rear? Why not have the fire forward into the cabin? Just wondering, I think it would be cool to see those subs whenever someone got into the car and had the bass beating them in the back of the head. haha

Because he will get better bass response with the subs firing toward the back rather than the front. It may look "cool" with the subs facing forward but it wouldn't sound as good.
