I'm looking at buying a MP3 player that will probably be used primarily in my Z06. The Archos AV120-40 Jukebox looks pretty slick. I don't want to use an FM converter and have seen some posts that say you can connect with the correct wiring harness and adapter. If I understand correctly, this means I would have a direct line-in for better sound quality than with a FM modulator. What I know I am not clear on is whether the factory stereo auxiliary controls will control whatever MP3 player I have plugged in to the harness. Exactly what control would I have on an external unit like the Archos? Does anyone have any suggestions as to other options I should consider for adding MP3 capabilities to my factory stereo? $400 is about as much as I would want to spend and I like the idea of being able to copy files direct to a HD unit or other storage format instead of burning CDs. Thanks for any input.

Yes, you would have a line-in(AUX) using the factory HU. The only control you would really have is volume. You would have to mount a remote display to control the MP3 unit.
Most folks go with the Neo Jukebox if they're going to keep the factory HU. The Neo is a HD based MP3 system with a remote display/controller that mounts nicely in the ashtray area (cutting IS required). An IR remote is also included.
I have a Neo, and I love it. You hook it up to a computer and copy the MP3s to it just like any other HD.
I've seen the NEO in some other posts and I am considering it. I guess I am looking to get out cheap and have something I could also use outside the vehicle on occasion. Is the heat that can build up inside a car during the day while sitting in the sun not an issue with the HD units, NEO or otherwise?
That’s a slick install Mike. Are you happy with the way it lets you organize and access all that music or does it take a bunch of button pushing to find what your looking for? I still may go with a portable unit. I like the idea of being able to rip MP3 direct from a player to the Archos. Biggest drawback to that one is there is no remote control and not sure how/where I would mount it so it would be accessible.
Anyone using a portable player who can comment???
thanks
Just bought a NEO and the PIE adapter......now the difficult procedure of getting it installed...

I just got a killer deal on one too. I was going to order online but happened to call the local Best Buy and got the last unit they were trying to get rid of for only $259. Everything's there in the box. May have been their display unit but it looks brand new.
I've contacted Tuan to order the cables I need. Maybe Mike Mercury or someone here can give us the details about what wires to hook-up to and where to find them. Finding the right wires is what always gives me fits.
