I replaced my head unit awhile back and temporarily put a set of junker 6x9's in the rear so that I wouldn't have to deal with Bose incompatibility. I noticed that the speakers don't exactly fit up to my mounting points in the rear, so I had to fabricate a crude mount out of a board.
I'd like to not have to use any sort of mount in the rear now that I'm going to put some permanent speakers in. Can someone tell me a set of decent speakers that will fit with no mount? I don't need or want to impress anyone with my system. As long as I can listen to CD's I'm alright.
my 6x9's fit in the back of my 87 with no mods at all.
Which 6x9's do you have? Like I said, I'm using a junker set right now.. it's some 3-way Pioneer 6x9's, which theoretically should be sufficient.. only they're like 10 years old and paper. The bass sounds like crap.
I borrowed a set from a friend to see if they'd line up (also Pioneer 6x9's, but much newer) and they didn't. They were, however, of a different bolt pattern than the ones I'm currently using. Maybe it's just some models of Pioneers that aren't quite right?
I have a pair of Infinity Kappa 693I 3-Way 6X9's in the back. I used the stock 6X9 mount that was in the car. The holes didn't line up, but it was easy to install them anyway. I used bolts and a flat washer on each side of the speaker to mount them and it worked perfect.
I'd show you pics of my setup, but my vette isn't here right now :(
I did a complete change over from Blowse, to JVC/Sony XPlod.
I got 6½'s in the doors, and 6x9's in the back, and it sounds GOOD!
