Hello I own a 03 Coupe with just the factory head unit (no CD changer). I am thinking about buying a MP3 player such as the Neo. Is this the best unit? What kind of things do i need to do to get it installed? I'd probably have someone install it for me, i hear i have to buy a harness that adapts my cd changer hook up that is already in my car?? How hard is it to cut away the ashtray area to install the head unit?? Any pics and detailed instructions would greatly help me out....i dont really trust the installation departments around here but maybe if i get good directions i'll tell them how i want it done.
also, does anyone know where i hook the PIE Aux cable in at?? Does it hook in the back of the radio or is there a harness in the rear cargo deck somewhere?? Any pics would be GREATLY APPRICIATED!!
The problem is that the AUX input is essentially useless ... the only suggestion I would make is to try finding a way to have the HU think that the Neo is the CD Changer ...
Most people have given up on the AUX setting ... this is a hard question to answer ...
This may be a little out of left field ... but ... at Circuit City (Electronics Store if they are not in your area) you can but a FM transmitter that has a 4 ft range, they advertise it as a replacement for the "Cassette Adapters" ... you just set it to a unused radio frequency ... and it will play as if you were playing the radio ...
From what I can tell from reading past posts, unless you already had a CD Changer you will also need another Aux harness in addition to the PIE adapter. It plugs in near the fuse box in the passenger footwell if memory serves... I e-mailed Tuan to see if I have the correct part numbers to order from him. I'll pass on to you after I hear back.

and that is exactly what the PIE box does. It sends serial data to the HeadUnit... the HU is fooled into thinking there is a factory CD changer connected and the aux button then does indeed work.
In order to hook up the NEO MP3 Jukebox, you will need both the cd-changer harness and the PIE GM10-AUX adapter. The changer harness hooks up to the CD-changer port in the passenger foot well. The PIE GM10-AUX adapter hooks up to the cd-changer harness and convert it over to RCA input. And then you hook up the RCA output from the NEO MP3 Jukebox to it.
I have both of these items in stock. Below are the links for them. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
What do you think, do i really need the harness?? The stereo guys said i could hook up the P.I.E. GM10 right to the factory stereo and then run RCA cables to the back of the car to the Neo player.....is this a good way to save another $70?? Or no?
also anyone got pics of how the installation went in the ash tray area?? I would love some pics to give to the installation people....thanks again for all of your help.

Hi 50th,
I haven't seen or heard of anyone doing this. But if your stereo tech said it is possible to do, you should let him do it instead of yourself. That way you can hold him responsible for it if anything goes wrong. And also, will it cost you almost the same to pay him to do it?
I honestly think it's worth the money to get the harness. You know for damn sure it will definitely work. There is no cuting or splicing any wire, and there is no problem with removing everything to return to completely stock. :)

only with modification. The PIE-GM10 sports a 10 pin connector on the input end. This 10 pin connector only mates (as far as I know) to the CD harness rearward connector. It doesn't mate up with any other connector. So I can only surmize that the stereo shop plans on cutting off the 10 pin connector and hard wiring it into something else in the front of the car.
Re: MP3 PLAYER INSTALLATION QUESTIONS (Mike Mercury)
i'm gonna get the harness. I just got off the phone with the dealer and the parts guy says all vettes are already equiped with the CD harness.........and that it was located somewhere near the amp....

That is DEFINITELY NOT true. You should cross that dealer name off your list and don't let them anywhere near your Vette.
Over 90% of Vette I know do not have the cd-changer wiring harness (of course, unless they have the stock CD-Changer :p: ). There are a very few however, that have the cd-changer harness pre-wired from the factory. One quick way to check is look under the passenger foot well and see if there is any wiring harness hooked up to the cd-changer port.

I can say for a fact that (at least) through the 2002 model year the CD harness was not included on any Corvette built... unless the car was ordered the CD changer.
Re: MP3 PLAYER INSTALLATION QUESTIONS (Mike Mercury)
Ok, just an update. I purchased the CD harness thanks to all of your advice and the PIE adapter.
Should go in this next week to Circuit City for the install. They have a tech there that use to work at my Chev. Dealer, so I feal a little better takin' my baby to them. I think i may still stand around and watch the install!! Just because! I'll post pics when she gets done!
