Alpine CDA-7998 capacitor question
I asked a while back about where to get the capacitor recommended by Alpine for the 7998 to get the Auto close function to work. I purchased two of them at Radio Shack and installed the first one and thought I had the polarity correct and it fried... :mad
I then tried the second one and reversed the polarity of the first and it fried as well. I have the standard 12V Bosch relay setup and have no other problems whatsoever with my system.
Question is: Does anyone have a part number for the capacitor. I would like to try again. I am sure plenty of people have done this and I would like to know which cap they used. Might have had a bad batch from Radio Shack.
Thanks,
Glad to hear that yours works as it is supposed to.
Here is what Alpine has on their website about it.
Subject:
My CDA-7998/CDA-7897 will not Auto-Close when ignition is turned off
Using a Non-Alpine brand amplifier or an external relay may cause instability in the CDA-7998/CDA-7897's remote turn-on circuit. Due to some of the electrical components in the vehicle, the power feed may lack proper masking (filtering) to the CDA-7998/CDA-7897. This could cause the auto-close function not to work properly when the ignition is turned off. To ensure proper operation, it is recommended that a electrolytic capacitor is installed with a relay. Please refer to the attached PDF document.
The PDF is the tech bulletin that details the capacitor and it's placement in the circuit.
thanks,
I just looked at the PDF and it is different than the tech bulletin I had last fall. IT now says you can use a diode to fix the problem. I will try that this weekend. That would make more sense to me than the capacitor.
