Default Sound Deadening article published...

We got an astounding 8 db difference with the L-comp and Brown Bread combined.

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...ng-6-2003.html

Hints for corvette guys:

1. Cover everything with brown bread.
2. Do two layers everywhere, except by drivers pedals.
3. Put L comp on floor and behind seats / tranny tunnel, back deck.

We got an astounding 8db difference. Much more than I could have expected. I still need to work some magic on the door panels, and they have a 400hz vibration that is driving my nuts...

sounds great. Here is a trick for the doors.

I used rubberundrecoating from pepboys. It is the same spray stuff from dynamat. You can purchase it for $5 a can and I used two cans to do both doors. Stick with the can with they typical spray paint nozzle, the larger one leaked too much.

I took off the doors and tightened everything down. Then I removed the bose grill and glued the plastic cage piece down. It was a noise maker. Next, i sprayed two coats on the doors and let them dry over night. I think i added about two pounds of stuff to each door.

My doors are quiet as can be. There are no noises at all!!! Plus, you can not tell that the door is covered in undercoating. I let the panels dry for 24hours before reattaching them.

1st off, you stole the line from my Sig, Easy Bake Oven, I want royalties, :jester

I've been working with some stuff similar to L comp. We had a 6dB loss on a coupe with long tube headers and basically straight pipe exhaust.

I love that term, and after putting in Brown Bread in a 103Deg garage, well it was fitting.

Most people never consider the L-Comp, but it is amazing stuff. I used 4 boxes.

1 box = Driver side floor
1 box = Passenger side floor
1 box = rear deck
1 box = behind seats

Cool article, about how much weight do you think was added to the car?

Well:

1 Roll Brown Bread: .4lb/ft^2 * 70 = 28lbs
4 Rolls L-Comp: 8lb /roll * 4 = 32lbs
1 JL 12W7 = 40lbs
JL 1000/1 = 15lbs
JL 450/4 = 15lbs
JL 300/2 = 7lbs
5 lbs of MDF

so....

142 LBS... but it was so worth it. The car is much less tiring on longer runs. That 8db difference is VERY noticeable. And the dampning was distributed evenly over the car so the 50/50 isn't messed with.

The amps and processor are before the front wheel, with the sub in the back. I haven't noticed any ballance changes.

The 12W7 hits hard enough that you can fell the wind around the tonnoue cover into the seating area... so better AC :)

I'm not sure if I'm going to use Brown Bread or eDead v2. I'll have to add the L-Comp to the shopping list

I also have a 95% box of Brown Bread. If you are thinking of doing your call make an offer.. as I don't need the remaining.

That is 95% of the big roll BTW... :)

The most important thing to remember when using a Viscoelastic Deadener is its adhesion to the surface.
