OK, this is really about my wifes Cavalier but I know the C5's have this on their stereo's too. My car has an original equipment stero with "Theftlock". I want to install a new unit. Do I need to do anything special or can I just install the new unit and everything will work OK (provided I have all the wires connected properly)?
Re: Probably a stupid "Theftlock" question (79MakoL82)
Theftlock is a feature built in to the headunit. If activated and power is cut to the radio (i.e, stolen), it requires your "secret code" once power is reapplied before radio will work.
If you remove the stock stereo, you have removed Theftlock. There should be no problems when installing the aftermarket stereo.
If you get rid of the stock unit, make sure you pass-on your code (if set) to the new owner or they won't be able to use the stereo.
If you have the owner's manual for the car it explains the Theftlock feature pretty well.
