:banghead: Installed an Alpine XM rf modulator last night. I could not find a 12 volt delayed accessory power line in or around the console. Running out of time (2 kids + wife), I used a switched 12 volt connection that went ot the (auto) a/c panel. The a/c was off at the time. Buttoned everything back up, backed out of the garage this a.m. with the XM on. When I turned on the a/c, the XM went off?? Turn the a/c off, and you can turn XM back on. I know engineers sit around and think of stuff like this to do to us. Anyway, I would really like a delayed accessory source so the radio and XM stay on until a door is opened (like I did in my wife's car). Any suggestions? I hunted around in the fuse box briefly and without success, but that is tricky with all the doors closed.
Gary,
I have heard that Chevy built in a set of wires for connecting aftermarket electronics. I don't know if all years have this feature, But it would be easy to check.
Remove passenger floormat, unlatch and remove fuse access plate. Look for a set of taped off wires, (red, yellow, and black) They are constant 12v (red), Turn-on voltage(yellow), and ground (black). It should retain power like factory stereo (I hope).
I read this tip on the forum, so I would assume it's kosher. I'll have to go home and check mine to be sure!
I used rockrz's suggestion, there are three wires just above the computer near the inside fuses that are 1) switched, 2) continuous, and 3) ground. I would still like to have RAP to the XM, but at least now everything works.
Thanks for the responses
The power in the footwell for accessories is not RAP power. It turns off when the key is turned off immediately. The only place I could find RAP power was the antenna and the power windows. Tap into on of those. You could trace back a harness through the doors, or open up the trim panel behind the drivers seat and grab the power off the diversity antenna module (I did this). Works fine.
