Hey Guys
I'm thinking about trashing my oem Bose system for an Alpine, but.....in the meantime what is involved in switching the door speakers to aftermarket components with the stock HU?
Re: Advice on replacing door spkrs '02 vert (rockrz)
This may be what you need if you want to use the factory HU. Add an amp and use the product from the link below to keep the factory HU. However, if you upgrade the HU later, then the OEM-1 would be wasted money. http://www.tune-town.com/Cars/stuff/pac_oem1.htm
To install new speakers:
Lift off the plate behind the door handle. It's about 1"x3". Then use a torx screwdriver to remove two screws. Very carefully pull up on the door panels bottom right side and work your way around. Disconnect the electrical connections and gently lift up and off.
Remove the Bose assembly and use it as a template to mark your holes on 1/2" mdf. (see pics posted on this forum)
Run your wires through hole provided by GM to HU or pre amp.

and with new speakers, you will quickly tire of the lack of adjustments avail with the stock HU and want to replace. You're better off replacing everything at once.
