Alpine Power Wire Question

Is a 12 GA power wire a big enough guage wire to go to the battery on my Alpine CDA 9813 HU? Also, what size fusable link do I get, and where do I get it, to protect the HU?? Any other suggestions in wiring this HU is appreciated.

I bought a wiring kit... came w/8 GA wires so I'm in good shape. Next question, where do I route the wire through the engince compartment and through the firewall??
