Default need advice

I'm new to this part of the forum and this part of the car. I am wanting to replace the dash speakers (4x6), put in a new cd player. and possibly some 6x9's in the back of my '77. I have the full system in my dakota but do not wish to go that far with the vette. I have been looking at some Sony head units and some Audiobahn 4x6 plate speakers. What do you guys think of these? suggestions?

Sony and audiobahn is generally a bad idea...

mho, the best 4x6's are Cerwin Vegas. Infiniti 4x6 plates arent bad. Pioneer 6x9s are good, but i dont like their 4x6's.

Fortunately with entry level brands, you can go to stores and listen to it before you buy... so I suggest you do that. Just dont buy junk (sony) or questionable quality product (audiobahn.)

for head unit,
alpine
clarion
pioneer

What about the differences between a regular 4x6 and 4x6 plate speakers?

regular 4x6s are oval, plates have a round speaker and a tweeter. Most people believe the "plates" sound better than hte ovals

Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates
Infinity Kappa 6x9's
US Accoustic 4 channel amp
Alpine HU

if you search the C3 section's archives you'll find a great 6x9 template for the rear of the car.

I knew the difference as far as looks. But I was wanting to know the difference in sound. Are plate speakers more clear? less bass i would imagine?

I did a search, found some interesting stuff. I think that I will be looking at something like this. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...5CFP&s=0&cc=01

Should these be ok with fit?

If you absolutely HAVE to go with a 4x6 speaker use the plates. They do sound better than the oval 4x6's by far. Go with Alpine for a HU, even their lower priced units are good quality. Don't waste your time on Sony and Audiobahn.

Ya, I know. I was just using their page as an example. Ebay has them...buy it now for like $76 brand new.

So....infinity kappy 4x6 plates and Alpine HU? Good combo for the vette? Will both fit ok?

you can get CL61's or Focal Access for $150!

and no infiniti product compares to those.

$76 wouldnt be bad for those speakers.
