Default Audio expertise needed!!

Hi guys,

I’m hoping I can tap some expertise regarding speaker placement and stereo image for my 88 vert.

I've pulled the Bose and installed a Alpine 7897 HU (awesome) and Infinity speakers (5.25 door & 6x9's). I’m already ready to pull the Infinity’s. Not enough volume and I find I don’t like the stereo image I’m getting with the door speakers.

Most likely I'll get CDT separates (2-way or 3-way) and either a 3-4 channel amp.

Here’s where my question about speaker placement comes in… I’m thinking about pulling the dash and mounting the tweeters in the non-bose holes. For the vert I think this will help with overall clarity and stereo image, especially with the windows down. The door will get the mid or bass speakers.

Behind the seats I’m thinking either the bass (from the 3-way set) or maybe leaving the 6x9 Infinity’s.

For the sub I want to keep it small and tight. I don't need "rap-style" bass.

So it’s either a 3-way CDT set and a sub or a 2-way CDT set, Infinity 6x9’s and a sub…

Suggestions?

whew... I donno... the idea of separating the tweets from the mids like that is scary.

I would consider a pair of 8" subs in the rear... just an idea - how big are the enclosures back there?

the tweet distance from the mids with the CDT's isnt so much of an issue due to their spectacular off axis resposne, and their high crossover setting. They would be better in the doors, but if you dont want to cut a hole.. i would think the CDT tweets would be fine under the non bose grills.. put the 6.5's in teh door

i wouldnt do a 3 way set

And rear speakers.. I'd get a second cdt 6.5 set.

:iagree: :iagree:

I think a set of 6.5" CDT components and a set of 6.5" midbass in the back would be enough bass. I'm still impressed with what my single component set pumps out. Two sets would be great. The HD series supposedly have even better bass, and the Eurosports even more so. Try them for the added bass in the rear. However, with the CDT deal at http://www.thezeb.com its hard up two sets for $300 shipped. :yesnod:

btw, dont mix infiniti with cdt. The Infiniti's are so inferior, they will screw up your sound quality.

I'm definitley going for the CDT's. Gotta figure out where to put the rear tweets tho..

The sub will wait...

I wouldn't even use rear speakers normally, but theyd probably help in your situation. Just stick them under the stock grill on a mounting plate, it'll be fine.
