I don't care for the Bose system in my 03 Z06. It just doesn't have enough sound depth to it. I'm looking at a replacement. But with all the verity out there I'm lost.
I don't want a competition system just a good quality system that sounds good when listening to different types of music.

I have an '85, and I think if I were to compare that system with other circa 1985 systems, it would be impressive. But compared to what can be done today, it's not that great. The base is a little muddy and the treble is so so. Furthermore, the system itself is overly complicated and expensive. I would just as soon have a stock GM Delco unit. I've often been pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound from these.

I just got a Yukon Denali which stickers for less than a new Corvette. The stereo is superb not to mention built in XM and On-Star.
Corvettes come with a $30,000 car stereo. GM should be more democratic and share the better sounds with us.

I was not real happy with the Bose in my '02 Z either. BUT, the resonance inside the car kills the stereo. After completely covering the interior with Dynamat and taking special measures to dynamat behind the speakers and speaker brackets, the stereo now sounds very tight. I reduced the interior db's @ 70mph from 81 to 73 (also using a partition). A more powerful stereo system could do the same thing, but the db levels needed to overpower everything else would make me deaf in no time.
The interior of a stock Z is closer to that of a 55 gallon steel drum as far as an acoustical environment is concerned. I'm sure an aftermarket system would perhaps improve what I am now very satisfied with; but, it would be diminishing returns for me. While I really enjoy a good stereo, the sound and performance of the engine is still more of a priority.

OH man- my sentiments exactly. After posting on my Bose speakers I come to find out I'm not alone, and yours hit it on the head. I thought the previous owner had blown out the speakers or pulled them (Bose) out- up until now Bose had a nice sound in my '86 vette, so I thought something was wrong. Oh well. I'll hum along with the magnaflows. :thumbs:

I actually figured out how to make the Bose system in my 2000 vert sound better. I keep it turned off and listen to the sound of my Stingers! :rofl:

If it were the standard stereo system in a Cavilier I would be pleased with the way it spounds, but it's not and I'm not.
I'm not a big audiophile, so I'm probably not going to replace it, but everytime I turn it on I'm reminded of the power of marketing and an extablished overrated brand name to sell mediocre products. Does the head of Bose have a picture of the head of GM in a compromising position? Why else would it be mandatory that you take a Bose with each new Corvette?
Why no delete option? Because they know they would lose a lot of overpriced stereo sales.
And what's this with Bose designing their system to make it difficult to replace something as simple as a speaker (their oddball impedence) or amplifier with another brand? Is any other electronics company that sleazy?

I've asked the customer service rep at Bose to visit our forum to sample the comments on the Bose stereo..... Might be worth a try to show Bose how some corvette owners feel!

My wife just told me that she and my youngest son just "blew" the front speakers in my '90. Not too happy but then I'm in Saudi for awhile. Gives her a chance to get it fixed before I get back

It doesn't design for a competition. WHy would GM invest into some thing high and no one want to pay the high price for it?
For what is worth, BOSE on our Vette sounds fine if you're not having to blast on every music you come across.

I have a 97 C5. It has a 12 disc changer but the in dash unit is a cassette, since you guys hate your Bose systems so much, anybody want to sell a couple (1 for my cousin's 98) of the in dash units that have the CD player?
