Forget Hi Fi shops, its all smoke and mirrors BS.
Go to a PA (Public Addres) Co., i.e. music shop that sells stuff for bands, or if you really want to go over the top - try welding cable.!!!

Go to http://www.partsexpress.com from there you can get any quality of wire
your heart desires and you won't pay "smoke and mirrors" prices.
I have a pretty high end 2 channel and home theater rig and I don't subscribe
to the "wires have a sound" camp at all.. I made all of my own wires from
99.999 Oxygen Free 12 Guage Copper terminated with all silver soldered 24K
Banana's and it works just great :)

Try KnuKoceptz.com, I used their 0, 4, 8, 12, guage wire in my Corvette
I also used their patch cords and terminals. Good but cheaper in $.

I have Monster Z3 Reference for my main front speaker cables and there is a difference. My salesman let me hear my old wire compared to the Z3 wire when I bought it for comparison. I watched the whole wire swap and no controls where touched. Size matters in wire.
