i have been looking to replace the blose in my 85. panasonic has this black HU with a touchscreen display. something like 26 watts, 3 5V outputs. plays mp3's. i think it would look really slick with all the other flat black surfaces of the interior. has anyone had any experience with the touchscreen?
Re: panasonic "ghost" touchscreen HU (Orlando85UCFvette)
I was going to get one of these units for my 85 as well (fits prefectly with that digital display). What stopped me was when I talked to a couple people that had them. They told me it was very hard to read in the daytime (not a biggy), and more importantly the touch screen itself is very easy to scratch.
If it was just a weekend car for me I probably would have gotten one, but didn't want to get anything that couldn't take at least a decent amount of abuse.
well, define "easy to scratch"...mine is a daily driver.....but she is REALLY babied...i can't imagine how it could ever get scratched...i know about the daylight issues.my old kenwood did the same thing...i am just looking for a NORMAL black HU that doesn't look like it was created by aliens to be inserted into a ricer...i want something classy...that all black HU looks like it will fit perfectly. the KAMELEON hu looks nice...until u turn it on  any other suggestions would be great...
Re: panasonic "ghost" touchscreen HU (Orlando85UCFvette)
well, there's a company called Becker that makes the radios for Mercedes and Porsche. They do have aftermarket versions of their OEM radios. The quality is good and the fit and finish is still OEMish. They aren't cheap, but then again who'd want to put a cheap headunit in a Corvette?
As for hard to read in the daytime, you should see the Alpine IVA-C800 I have in my Mustang. The foldout screen is a 6.5inch LCD that is almost impossible to read in the daytime. But at night, its beautiful.

Well I can't speak from my personal experance with the unit. But from the person who advised me not to get it he said all it took was his girlfriends fingernails while changing a radio station. So not sure, didn't inspire a lot of confidence in me. But then again maybe he should have just found a new girl, with trimmed nails :D
Give it a try, I think it would be the best looking headunit if you could get it mounted up flush with the consol.

I have one installed in a 81-- looks good- sounds good-- i put a velcro strip on the remote and atached it to the shifter consol- finger tip control without ever touching the screen
