Kicker solobaric question
I had mine in a sealed enclosure giving them both about 1sq ft of airspace each, powered by a rockford fosgate power 800a2. While they did get loud and played low, they werent very tight and accurate. But, this couldve been due to my enclosure or perhaps underpowering w/ my rated 400 watts each.
I went with these after being blown away by my shops demo beetle w/ 2 10" solo-barics (the round ones). Needless to say, my setup sounded nothing like the beetle. I ended up selling that system and doing another custom install w/ 3 10" JL w3s and was much more satisfied. To this day, I've yet to hear an L7 install that "sounded" good. Dont get me wrong, I love loud bass, but I think its all worthless if it doesnt sound good.
IMO, I'd only go with these subs if I wanted loud obnoxious bass. But if you want to be heard from blocks away, these subs are great.
my install:
IMO, L7 are powerhungry SPL subs

It is hard to compare "what sub is better". So much depends on the install, amps, and tuning.
I had JLs and Kicker L5s running in the same box with the same amp, at different times, and was much more impressed with the Kickers.
Of course the Kicker was louder and had more SPL, but was just as transient and accurate as the JLs IMO.
You are right, they require gobs of power to achieve their full potential. Also they perform better in an enclosure on the smaller side of their recommended volume and really need to crossed under 80 Hz. They have a tendency to become "boomy" otherwise.
Currently I'm running a Kicker 10L7 with over 1200 watts :D
I am looking at diamond audio Cm3 10" now. I am running a diamond audio component setup in the front (6 1/2 mids and tweets) @ fosgate amps. The one to run the sub would be my 250.2. I would bridge to get the full power. My component set runs off a 200.2. The box would be in the center compartment!
The same setup and same song, the bass is slow ...
I then switched to Diamond M5 at that time and it is so loud, clean, and tight.
Later on, I switched to Diamond Mac Daddy and get even better.
One of my buddy got Diamond M3 10" in his coupe and it sounds really nice.
If you could find a 10" Mac Daddy, get that because it is better then the current M6.
