I was looking to install MB Quart PSD-316 Components in my '01 door. I had seen on the Forum where someone got all 3 components on a homemade mount to fit in the stock location...
After checking the MB Quart site today I noticed that they no longer even make a 3-pc component set anymore. What is up with that?!? :(
I do prefer the MB Quart speakers, but wanted to know what the car audio specialists on the Forum would recommend...
ps. I'm also changing out the HU and adding a JL Stealthbox with JL 500/5...
Re: Need c5 speaker choice help... (SilverC5inOhio)
Well even though I have not heard them personally yet, MANY people are raving about CDT speakers. I just purchased a set of CL-61's which are a 6.5" mid and a 1" tweet component set. People say the CDT's sound better than MB, JL, Infinity or any other speaker for the money. Mine are awaiting installation.
I think the CL-61's are still on sale for half price on THEZEB.com. Check em out!
:iagree: I've used two sets of MBQuarts, including the Q's and the metal tweeters were very bright. I'd recommend the CDTs over the quarts any day. CDT HD's are very nice speakers and the Eurosports are a step up.
Send me a IM if youd like a little better pricing than what thezeb.com offers, I'll set you up with my dealer.

Dynaudio
I'm not sure that someone who likes MB Quartz... would really like natural SQ oriented speakers like Dyn or CDT.
 MB not natural SQ oriented speakers????
I'm sure their componets installed have won more trophys in USAC and IASCA than any other manufacturer's speakers.
Yes, they are bright. Most metal dome tweeters I have heard are bright.
Just my $.02.
I'm thinking about going with the new JL Audio EVOLUTION XR series- http://www.jlaudio.com/evolution/XR653CS.html - since I will be adding their 500/5 amp and C5 Stealthbox. Specs look very comparable to what has been mentioned although I have yet to hear them...
Re: Need c5 speaker choice help... (SilverC5inOhio)
I have the JL XR 6.5 in the front with a JL 300-2 amp and the are great. I would also put a JL 500-1 amp with a JL W7 sub it makes for a great system.
Probably more important than the speakers is a good frequency controller. :yesnod: MB's need to be controlled or they're ear piercing. They are great if your an audiophile with the right setup.

yeah MBQ's sound awesome when you EQ the crap out of 'um until they sound like different speakers.

scvett: Where did you end up installing the tweeter? I was considering putting all 3 cones on a custom mount where the BOSE are now, but have heard so many talk of getting them up higher. Not sure I have the nads to chop into my door panel ..
I seen somone have them installed up on the dash in the "A" pillar garnish. Have to check out how much clearance there would be for a flush mount tweeter up there...
BIG LAW MAN: Maybe Conquer will chime in the thread on his experience. I just checked out the CDT website and no doubt - those are very nice... But, where can you get them without breaking the bank... Jeeeez!
I just like my cochlea intact.
Kale: Had to look that one up. You had me a little scared there... My girlfriend can breath a sigh of relief... :D
