How loud can you go with your system? I can safely go to 23-24, but I'm afraid to go anymore. I'll start to pick things I probably don't even hear, and think I'm messing something up. If you do hear some distortion, what would be the first thing to adjust?

That question is not really answerable since we do not know what you have to adjust. Not to mention there are two kinds of distortion. Electrical which is a piece of equipment clipping and mechanical which is a speaker bottoming out or jump out of the gap. Please be more specific and it will be easier to help.

I guess you do not have an amplifier? Also what is the max volumne of your head unit? Either way since you are using the CDT speakers I highly recommend the use of an amplifier. Those speakers will sound alot better and you will have more clean volumne if you use an amp.

Yeah, I do have an amp. I was in a hurry before, and halfassed an explaination. I have the 5 1/4's up front, with 1" tweets, and a 10"JL in the rear. The fronts are amped with a JL 300/2, and the sub has a JL 250/1. I think the max volume is 30 or 35, don't remember.

Well I guess the best thing to do would be to tell you how to tune your system. Start with the xovers...adjust the sub to lets 100hz. Now your mids should have their own passive xover and if this is the case I would set the xover on the amp to match the passive or below the cutoff frequency....lets say 100hz again. Now turn the gains all the way down. Put in a CD that you would normally listen to loud and turn the radio up about 3 quarters. Then start to turn the gains up till the speakers distort. When they distort back the gain off a hair and your are good to go. You can adjust to xover some more to fit your personal preferance. Hope this helps.

This question is really way too vague. Your max H/U volume is also based on your amp gain settings. Your 9815 is a great deck with 4V pre-outs. As long as you are not using the loudness control (I NEVER use that) and your H/U bass level control isn't maxxed out you should be able to go super close to max H/U volume without distorting the 4V pre-out lines.

Make sure your internal v-drive amp is turned off since you are not using it. Your JL amps support 4V pre-outs so if your gains are set correctly (low) I think you could crank up to 32 or 33 without any distortion (depending on input source). Remember that the gain is not a volume control. The gain is used to set your amp's max power point to the H/U's pre-out max level point. Setting this correctly will maximize your s/n ratio.
