I'm working on my Vette. The guy before me put in a Kenwood sound system. I still think I has the stock speakers. He did have a amp in it, but took it out (the power wire is still there.) Here's my question. The passenger front speaker is the only speaker putting out 100%. The other 3 speakers are putting out only about 10%. What could cause this? I checked fade and balance, and it's definately only the one speaker fully working. I was thinking maybe he did a half assed job and the 2 wires to the speaker are touching? Maybe a bad connection, but on 3 or the speakers?!?!?!
Sounds like he may have been in a hurry when he ripped out the old set up. The only way to really know whats going on behind the dash is to pull out the Kenwood and see how it is hooked into the stock system.
1.) What speaker fits the housing? I tred Ctruchfield's website, and they say none fit. Is that true?
2.) I'm thinking of running an amp and rewiring the speakers . First, what are the stock speakers rated as RMS power? I don't have the money for speakers and an amp, so I'm going to have to wait a month or two for the speakers.
3.) How hard is it to put in a new HU? Crutchfield once again said the dash had to be modified? I put in a new HU in my Explorer, and it wasn't that hard, and this doesn't look all that different.
For the time being, you can hook up an aftermarket HU to the stock bose system. You will lose the 8" woofers in the doors, but the 3.5" twiddlers will work as will the rear speakers. The HU install is a piece of cake. There is an article in the tech tips section of this forum of how to do it step by step.
Just skip the step that has you remove the consol cover lid, it is totally unnecessary.
