Default Selecting amps?

Hey all--
Okay, so I am pretty much a moron when it comes to this sort of thing. I have been looking at either a pair of e8a subs or a pair of e10O subs for my stereo in the Vette. I am not sure which amps I should be looking at. First, I guess my questions is, "Do I want dual voice coils or single?" I know if I wire up a pair of DVC's in parallel to an amp, it would give me a 2 ohm load. The e10O will handle 500-700 watts each, while the e8a would handle 300-400 each.

My next question deals with wiring subs (or speakers in general) in series or parallel. For the subs above, should I be shopping for a 2-channel or a mono amp, for example? If I use, say, one 700 watt mono amp to run the 10's, would each be receiving 700 watts? If not, how does that work? I am also looking to upgrade the speakers in my Explorer, and this would help in deciding whether or not to go with a 2-channel or a 4-channel to drive the four speakers. Thanks for the help!

the only difference is dual will give you more wiring options to help get the proper ohm load for an amp at a given power rating that you're looking for.

My next question deals with wiring subs (or speakers in general) in series or parallel.
sub are only speakers you need to deal with wiring in series/parallel...
read this: http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html

For the subs above, should I be shopping for a 2-channel or a mono amp
a mono would be prefered, but you could always bridge the channels on a 2 channel into a mono

If I use, say, one 700 watt mono amp to run the 10's, would each be receiving 700 watts? If not, how does that work?
you divide the total watts by the number of speakers, so if your amp is putting out 700 watts each sub would receive 350 watts.

I am also looking to upgrade the speakers in my Explorer, and this would help in deciding whether or not to go with a 2-channel or a 4-channel to drive the four speakers.
by 4 speakers do you mean front L/R and rear L/R ? if so then one 4-channel would be fine or you could use two 2-channel amps

Thanks for the info, most informative! The only reason I was looking at a two-channel for the Explorer (and yes, it would be for a front L/R and a rear L/R) was because I can get by with not having the front to rear fade option. Anyway, thanks for the help!

if you used a 2-channel for 4 speakers your sound would be all screwed up... and would probably end up blowing the amp...

if you need any more help post or im me, i'm always happy to help :seeya

Okay, now that I have my power needs straight, I need to select my amps. I think I am going to go with a pair of e8a subs instead of the e10o. This means I would need a 400-900 watt mono amp. Originally, I was going to go with US Acoustics for the entire car (2100 for the CDT's and 4085 bridged for the subs). I did some searching around, and I found a set that is more appealing, however. The Audiobahn A4002T (for the CDT's) and the Audiobahn A8000T for the subs. They are more pricey, but they also look nicer. But how well do they work? Would you have any other suggestions for amps? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on amps as I am not competing or anything like that. I just like great sound. Finally, would I have any problems if I ran the subs with the Audiobahn and hid a US Acoustics amp running the CDT's? Thanks again for your help.
