I'm putting in a sub box and I installed my amp yesterday and I can get it to power up, but as soon as I connect the RCA's into the amp, my rear speakers cut out and I don't get any sound out of the sub either. I can unhook the RCA's and the rear speakers will come back on. If I connect the RCA's to the sub box, the sub comes on. What would cause this and how would I fix it? Could it be that my ground isn't good enough and the amp is grounding out through the speakers instead? (Oh yea the speaker inputs are being pulled from my rear speakers) Thanks in advance for the help.
that is odd......how are you converting your signal from speaker level to RCA? What kind of amp are you using and is this in a C5? I am guessing you have two amps. What is the amp that is not on the sub running?
more info
are you spliting one pair of rca's into two to power two amps of one set of rcas off the radio? The gound going through the speaker doesn't make sense to me. Give us amp brands, etc. too
Re: Need help, no sound from amp... (knewblewkorvette)
It isn't on my Vette. Sorry if I posted here but I think it would all be the same as far as stereo installation is concerned. I had the exact same setup in my Vette though and it worked, so I don't see why it wouldn't work now. I have a Line Level converter that converts 4 speaker level inputs into 2 RCA outputs. The amp is a Rockford Fosgate 360a2. I tapped the back of the head unit (following the wiring diagram) and ran these to the converter. Then ran RCA's from the converter to the amp. I only have one amp an it is being used to power the sub. When the RCA's are plugged into the amp, it cuts off my rear speakers, and no sound comes from the sub. When I disconnect the RCA's my rear speakers come back on. If I take my RCA's and connect them to my sub, the sub works. It's like the signal is coming off the head unit correctly, but I can't amplify it, as soon as I try, the signal cuts out. Hope that helps.
***UPDATE*** I ran the wires again, making sure all connections were solid...now the rear speakers stay on no matter what :hurray: but I still can't get any sound from my amp. I took the RCA's off the amp and connected it straight to the sub and it came on (but wasn't very powerful of course). So once again signal is coming out of the head unit and is making it to the amp. The amp is turning on when it's supposed to, but still no sound. Could it be that my amp died on me? It's about 7 years old :D and now I'm thinking it's the amp. I am probably going to go out and buy a cheap ole amp to see if this does anything, if it works then, then I'll know my RF amp is no longer worth a darn and buy a new one. Does this make any sense?
