Re: C5: Improving FM reception: Adding power antenna from 03 vert... (knewblewkorvette)
Sorry, havent had time/motivation to investigate further. Ive been driving 35 miles per day, 4x a week to school with no radio! Ugh. Ill try to do it this weekend.

Yeah and I spend alot of time on the roads these days, at least an hour and 1/2 sitting in my car each day. But Im sick and tired of listening to my same CDs, Im considering getting XM....
Re: C5: Improving FM reception: Adding power antenna from 03 vert... (eRiCdWoNg)
OK I finally got to doing some poking around today, I put the OEM radio back in for a little. This is what I discovered. The pink wire does indeed have 7.5 or so volts going to it when the FM is turned on. 12 volts went to green whenever the radio was even on.
This is even more curious here, I discovered that there is around 7.7 or so volts DC going to the pin of the coax wire thats before the "box" thats above your head that connects to the on the glass antenna. It is always energized when the radio is on and does not deviate. I'm wondering this may be some sort of 'preamplifier' DC voltage, and us running aftermarket radios obviously dont have this energized thus our poor reception.
Ill try to call Delphi tomorow and see if somebody knows what they are talking about and can shed more light.
Maybe there is another option to the 03 power antenna so I dont have to punch a hole in the body of my car.

Thanks for puttin in the work. Make sure to keep notes Im sure there is a ton of us who would love to have a fix for this!

That voltage may come from the other box near the seatbelt. If you power up that box with an aftermarket radio power antenna lead +12 volts then a resistor to drop to +7.5 volts to the other lead you may get the 7.7 at the box near the rear window. Perhaps if you installed a switch in the 7.5 volt lead you could get AM without the 7.5 vollts present.
Anyway I finished my power antenna install and tested it last night. I used a friends 2001 vert for a template to drill my hole. I removed both boxes from my car so Eric or Brandon if you blow yours out shoot me an email and I'll send you mine. Bob
