I have a JL stealthbox right now with a 10w3v2 in it. I am running a Xtant 301a that keeps blowing the sub. I want a nex box same as the JL except raises up a little to give more sub clearance and volume for a 10w6v2 or a 12w3v2. I want it to be fiberglass if possable. I would assume that would be the best? I am running a Sony head unit with about $800 of Monster Cables, Xtant 301a and 302a amps, Fosgate 1 farad digital top cap, MB Quart seperates front and back, and fatmat throught the entire car. Any ideas guys? Thanks
Thanks guy, I think I might just have to go the custom route here then. I know there are cheaper ways, but we aren't talking a pinto here either. I will pay the cash to get it done right.
:iagree: Why are you so intent on getting a JL sub though? There are much better subs out there for that amount of money...Kale is a good member to ask.
thanks guys. mike76002 is making them out of wood I believe, is there that much of a difference between wood and fiberglass? I thought that fiberglass was the way to go. Also which sub would you guys recommend then if not a JL?
Randy...you can not go wrong with a JL sub. JL Audio has been a leader in the industry for as long as I can remeber. There are many very good subs out there but it does not change the fact JL is a fantastic sub. Now as far as wood and fiberglass. the major difference for your application is air space. A fiberglass mold can be pulled from your wheel and used for major part of your enclosure. In doing this you maximize available air space. When using wood there is a loss availble air space due to the wood not being able to conform to the all the curves of your well. Also you have to remove the dispacement of the wood itself for the air space in the well. But a fiberglass enclosure usually cost more than a wood enclosure. On average double and often much more. If you can have a wood enclosure enclosure in your well and provide the proper airspace for your sub their is nothing wrong at all using wood. One MAJOR advantage to a custom wood enclosure over a custom fiberglass enclosure is that your car will not smell for a several days of fiberglass. That is a drawback to make a fiberglass enclosure to custom fit.
So really the choice is yours. If you can purchase a wood enclosure that fits the needs of your driver and is less than a custom fiberglass one go for it. The most important thing is that the enclosure is built to the proper specs of the driver. No matter if it is fiberglass or wood....if it is not the right enclosure for the woofer it is not what you want.
I made mine out of a combination of wood and fiberglass, made the bottom out of wood, and then angled the top so that the sub points more into the car so its not firing at the ground and trunk, PLUS i fit a 12L7 Kicker Solobaric in it which I love and for the price of 180, you can't go wrong.
Quoted cost= 650$
Do-it-yourself cost=65$
