I was given a pair of tweeters..(thx Al '92) I went to Radio shack and bought the non-polarized capacitor for a crossover. I'm looking at this thing how do I wire this sucker to the tweeter?
Re: how to wire capacitor to tweeter? (BayouVette)
The cap will wire in series with the positive. Cut the positive in two. Now you will have a wire coming from the amp and a wire going to the tweeter. One side of the cap will go to the amp wire and the other side will go to the tweeter wire.
Out of curiousity do you know what the frequency that cap is going to cut off at?
:iagree:
and try to get it some what close to the tweet. They are "bass blockers" they sell and it is basically a cap and their instructions say to place near the tweet.
Re: how to wire capacitor to tweeter? (knewblewkorvette)
Dont remember the cut off.. but the tweeters will not be running off an amp. It will be wireed in parallel to the front or reaker existing speakers. Havent figured out which one yet. I will take a look at them when I get home and see. I know its on the package I just dont remember.
Should I wrapped up the little sucker in some electrical tape.

I usually put tape around any connections I don't solder. Some other guys will probably chime in but as a general rule of thumb (i think that's politically correct) never leave wire exposed.
Noel is correct. I take a piece of 18ga wire and strip off the coating. I try to make the piece about 1" long...then I slide that over the wire on the cap. Makes a nice tight covering that won't come off.
