I've learned a lot from this site and I actually paid the $10 and got the Time Alignment Schematic wiring diagram. It actually sounded great in my 91 Camaro's sound system. http://decware.com/new%20site/mainmenu.htm click on "ARTICLES" and then scroll down towards the bottom to "Car Audio" and click on "Schematics for better RTA scores".
It's a simple rewiring of your speakers in a series/180* out of phase configuration. It balances and evens out the sound no matter what position you're sitting in the vehicle. The balance and fader controls no longer function but, you don't need to adjust anything anymore.
After I completed the rewiring (in my 91 Camaro), I thought the imaging sounded better but, when I sat in my wifes car and listened to her factory stereo, I noticed the left speakers sounded a lot louder in her car.
I hesitently sent a copy of the diagram to one person on thirdgen.org because I promised him I would but, he didn't think it sounded any different and decided to use kickpanels instead.
I don't feel it's right to post someone else's information that he's charging money for (everyone has to make a living), and it's only $10 that's refundable if you aren't satisfied. Check it out.
Oops, I made a mistake in my last post. The Balance does work but, (not needed anymore), it's the Fader that will not be used. Sorry about the confusion. I posted that at 3am.
It's a little more involved then just swapping polarities.
The process you're talking about is more involved than just swapping wires, but to simply change the phase of a speaker you do simply swap the wires.
That said, why would want to do to your car stereo what you are describing? I would think among other things you could get into trouble with power issues, overloading amps.
Is the goal to get all of the speakers in phase or to get half of them out of phase?
Changing the polarity will put the speaker 180 out of phase....speaker location can put it 180 out of phase.....12db per octave crossover can put it 180 out of phase...there are several things that can. Many tweeters are labeled from the factory out of phase to help prevent over excursion from bass notes. If you wire your speakers some in series and some in parallel you can run into power problems. Some speakers will get more power than others. Bottom line is the best way totime align your speakers is speaker placement followed by electronic time correction.
